Ashes to Ashes by Karina Halle
(Experiment in Terror #8)
Publication date: December 11th 2013
Genres: Horror, New Adult, Supernatural
Synopsis:
It’s been two months since Perry Palomino and Dex Foray’s relationship reached a new turning point, two months since Perry started a new life in Seattle, and two months since their Experiment in Terror show took on a new partner, ex-Wine Babe Rebecca Sims, and found a new level of success. But whenever there is light in their lives, the madness still has a way of coming back in.When the team is sent back to the stormy Oregon coast to investigate a haunted school, Perry wants to use the opportunity to reconnect with her family and reintroduce Dex into their lives. Only Perry’s not the only one who’s reaching out – her grandmother Pippa has started appearing to her with disturbing warnings and Perry’s presence at the school has ignited a chilling new wave of supernatural phenomenon. Once used a century ago as a sanatorium to house children dying of tuberculosis, the school’s past residents are slowly coming back to life and with one thing on their mind. They want someone to play with, someone to join them. Forever.
Even when dead, some children get whatever they want.
And they want Perry.
My Review
Okay, so it's a given this is 5 stars. When we last left Dex and Perry after a crazy and scary show in New Orleans, things seemed to be pretty perfect for the two. I was left in a euphoric state of Dex and Perry bliss. But, I was waiting for the shoe to drop. I really didn't know what to expect with this book, Ashes to Ashes. It's the second to last book and I didn't know where the story was going.....I was happy to find out Perry kind of echoes these thoughts within in the first chapter. She knows how crazy her life has been and knows there is always something around the corner......
"There was just this indescribable feeling that every little step in our lives had been a lead up to us meeting each other. I could only hope the same fate would continue."
"There was just this indescribable feeling that every little step in our lives had been a lead up to us meeting each other. I could only hope the same fate would continue."
This book had it all. The Dex we all love and know is back his full glory, he can be dashingly sweet and totally crude all in the same sentence. It's a talent. Dex and Perry have lived together for two months and if you read the end of Come Alive....well you know Dex has something up his sleeve. I (hangs head in shame), had kind of forgotten what this was but as hints were dropped I totally was all sorts of giddy inside. And his attempts? The. Best. Dex has some killer timing. ;)
"All I think about is you, Perry. From the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep and even in my dreams."

This book also was pretty damn terrifying . A school full of haunted children. Yikes. There were times where I couldn't put down my kindle even if a ghost itself was standing next to me. The ball that goes thump in the night set the scene for this school back on the Oregon coast, in a way full circle for Dex and Perry.
"I knew, somehow, that you were going to change my life."

Besides the haunting, Dex and Perry still have obstacles. In all reality, they have known each other for eight months and they have some skeptics. (Jerks) but I liked to think we are past the pull and push and they are strong enough to deal with it all. Actually, I think book solidifies even more their relationship. The drama they can get through, the ghosts that haunt them, together they are a force.
This book has hot steamy scenes, loving words, totally scary as shit moments, Pippa (who I missed the last book), drama galore and that ending! WTF. The set up for the last and final EIT book Dust to Dust....It's going to be a doozy and I will cry when I have to say goodbye to my most wonderful Dex and Perry.
